Oh, the Faceless Nudes of Reddit

After writing the last post, it made me wonder what exactly is the appeal of the millions of videos and pictures of faceless people that you find on porn sites and whatever-it-is-that-you-call-sites-like-Reddit.

I can’t find any research on it, but there has always been a theme of the girl next door in porn. Since the advent of webcams and selfies, some people have figured out that they do not want their faces attached to the nudes they take just in case their accounts or phones get hacked. The Internet is forever, people, so take care of your nudes.

The faceless person can be anyone: your neighbor, your kid’s teacher, your cashier, your lawyer helping you to sue the big box chain for that spot of water that you slipped on (that you poured), your girlfriend, your other girlfriend.

Personally, I do like to see a beautiful face, but I get the appeal.

Reddit - The Mystery of the GoneWild Appeal

Like the 1.4 million subscribers to Reddit’s GoneWild sub and the millions more that certainly view it regularly, I certainly love the Redditors on there. People who are proud of their bodies have the confidence to seek anonymous comments seemingly not for psychological need for approval, but because they seem to feel part of a community (maybe I’m reading too much into the comments).

So what is it about the headless strangers with stunning bodies taking photos of themselves in mostly tasteful ways? Why does this sub-Reddit have more subscribers than most of its hardcore counterparts? Is the possibility that the person could be a neighbor, a co-worker, or a friend?

Whatever it is, I will likely be a subscriber for life.
